Walking, cycling and enjoying water in the nature around Villalonga

Villalonga is a green oasis between mountains, valleys and winding rivers. It is a dream location for hikers and cyclists – whether you prefer quiet rides through orange groves or tough rides through the mountains.

Hiking in the gorge of l’Infern

One of the absolute gems in the region is the Barranc de l’Infern, also known as the “Infernal Gorge” – but don’t let the name put you off. This spectacular ravine is located in the La Safor nature park, just a few kilometres from Villalonga. The path takes you through impressive rock formations, along babbling brooks and through green forests. In spring, it is a fairytale-like beauty with flowering plants and the sound of birdsong in the background.

A popular route is the Ruta del Racó del Duc, a relatively flat walk that follows the old railway line from Villalonga to Lorcha (L’Orxa). The route runs alongside the River Serpis, through tunnels and past old bridges – a unique combination of nature and history.

Cycling on old railway lines and through valleys

For cyclists, there are many beautiful routes, both for recreational cyclists and sporty climbers. The old railway line along the Serpis is also perfect for a leisurely bike ride with the family. Those looking for a bit more of a challenge can head into the mountains of La Safor or the nearby Valldigna, where winding roads reward you with sweeping views of the coast and the interior.

The Via Verde del Serpis is a must: a former railway line converted into a cycle path, which takes you along rivers, gorges and forests – perfect for a day in the fresh air, without traffic.

Lakes and rivers

Around Villalonga you will also find hidden spots on the water. The river Serpis is the lifeblood of the region and meanders peacefully through the landscape. On hot days you can cool off on the banks, have a picnic or just enjoy the soothing sound of flowing water.

Just outside the village are small natural pools, such as Font de la Reprimala, where clear mountain water flows from the rocks. Ideal for cooling off during a walk or just to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature.

Whether you’re heading into the mountains, cycling along a river or dipping your feet in a cool stream – in Villalonga and the surrounding area nature comes to life. Peace, space and adventure are literally on your doorstep.
